KaBOOM! Playground Build Fact Sheet KaBOOM! is a national non-profit organization that envisions a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America. State Farm, Southern University, Grambling State University and the State Farm Bayou Classic will join KaBOOM! in building a playground in New Orleans to provide a play space for children in need. What: The State Farm Bayou Classic and its partners would build a play space in New Orleans for the youngest residents to enjoy. We will also help to clean up the surrounding areas and provide assistance with beautification projects.
Where: Sylvanie Williams Elementary School
Why: Sylvanie Williams serves over 300 pre-kindergarten through 4th grade students. The school was severely damaged by flooding and wind from Hurricane Katrina. The school was forced to shut down due to displacement of children and damage to the school. Since reopening, many of the families that once lived in the neighborhood have returned to help rebuild their community. Currently, there is no playground at the school. A new place for kids to play will provide an opportunity for the children to have those ordinary, everyday childhood experiences that all young people should have.
What Can I do?: You can help us by volunteering you time and energy or bringing something to beautify the neighborhood. For more information contact The Bickerstaff Group at infobg@bickerstaffgroup.com or 202.363.2375. To volunteer click here to download the Volunteer Form. |
